Wallachia: Ceremony of ascension

13/10/09  ||  Kampfar

561 years ago, Vlad Ţepeş – aka The Lord Impaler, aka one of the very few, dead or alive, worthy of “Kampfar’s hall of undisputed awesomeness” – was set upon the throne of Wallachia. No, not Narnia, ya reeking imbecile, we are talking a real piece of land here – circa the southern parts of Romania exactly. From that piece of land and over to mine faster than any plane, Concorde included, could ever hope to travel. The reason behind this incredibly fast journey is Harald The Hardruler, him being the last brilliant king of what eventually, and unfortunately, evolved into Whoreway. Still: what a dude, cunning as fuck and equally rude!

Resurrect mentioned heroes a gazillion times over!!!

And now over to some proper sense, at least an honest try at it, and this try I’ll introduce by telling you that Wallachia has been around since 1992 but only released 2 albums since then – their debut, an EP at it, hitting the streets not very hard in 1996 exactly. I didn’t like black metal at that time, thought of it as cack metal exclusively, and I didn’t like it very much in 1999 either. So, when I tell you that their full-length début, namely “From behind the light”, made me vomit the soul halfway into the first song, I could indeed very well be guilty of exaggerating its poor quality a wee bit and then some.

I of course don’t care to check if so is the case, so let’s talk their latest already.

Do steal this album if you are out hunting for quality music you (most likely) never heard before. I bet I ain’t special enough to be the only one able to enjoy what’s on the menu here. And what we have on the menu is: symphonic black without cheese but balls and many a fine trick up it sleeve. The one trick I like the most is whenever they – or rather Mr. Stavdal I guess – pays tribute to Valfar and his Windir. Knowers will know. And, the different death riffs, proper ones at it, doesn’t exactly make me puke either.

All in all “Ceremony of ascension” is a fine piece of music who will appeal to some, perhaps even many, of those who visit our site.

Now fuck off and have a nice day.
